DNA: Case Study

Uju is the Unit Leader for the Care Unit of the Benevolence Department. The Care Unit is responsible for follow-up, visitation, and distribution of food and relief items for DCC member families facing economic challenges.

Sequel to the church announcement to commence the food bank, Uju has her hands full with planning market runs, logistics, and packaging.

In addition, her oldest son just changed schools and several shopping trips are needed to fulfil the school list.

Currently, her team only has one item out of a list of 11 items they need, leaving 10 items, and the next distribution date is in 5 days.

Ronke and Chris have been active members of the Care Unit and noticed several issues that require the leader’s attention.

  • Abu, another member, suffered a crisis and was taken to the hospital, he called Uju about this and she responded that she would visit him.
  • Ese has not been to any meeting in the last two months, Ronke notices this and brings it to Uju ‘s attention, who promises that she will call to inquire about her absence.
  • Amaka just developed the courage to terminate her 5-year relationship, which has left her drained and exhausted. She informed Uju that she was unable to attend any church activity.

During a recent unit meeting, Ronke and Chris mentioned that people are complaining that there is “no love” in their unit anymore, indirectly citing the lack of attention Uju is giving the several issues happening with members. Uju is overwhelmed by the situation and is at a loss on how to handle the many issues facing her and the group.

As a member of DCC workforce who carries the DNA of the house, what recommendations would you make to Uju, Chris, and Ronke on how best to handle the issues facing the group?
